The Joneses Synopsis

The Joneses are the new family that just moved into a typical upper class suburb in some normal city in America.  They are the coolest family with all the coolest possessions and everyone wants to be them.  But the one thing their neighbours don’t know is that they are getting paid to push their lifestyle and products on the neighbourhood as a whole.  It’s a new marketing technique known as “self marketing”.  If your neighbours want to be you, they will also want what you have.

Steve Jones (David Duchovny) and Kate Jones (Demi Moore) are the perfect couple with the perfect teenage kids Jenn (Amber Heard) and Mick (Ben Hollingsworth).  Everything is going smoothly and the family has quickly become the talk and envy of everyone in the neighbourhood.  As their neighbours try to keep up, the Joneses start to have problems within their unit and the entire marketing strategy begins to unravel.

This movie is a great look at our consumer culture today and how people are becoming too concerned with possessions.  People are beginning to get their self worth from what they have rather than who they are.  This film looks at this phenomenon in a funny and effective way.  I’m very much looking forward to the release so I can watch The Joneses in theatres or online.  I’m a huge David Duchovny fan and I think he will pull off this role with ease.
